Ten newborn babies died after a massive fire broke out in the Special Newborn Care Unit of a hospital in Maharashtra in the wee hours on Saturday.
All the infants killed were between a month and three months old, a doctor told news agency PTI.
There were 17 babies in the unit and seven were rescued, as per reports.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has assured that the tragedy in Bhandara will be “fully investigated”.
The Government of Maharashtra has announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh each to the families of the 10 newborns killed in the fire at Bhandara District General Hospital, the Maharashtra health minister said.
